There are many challenges to waterproofing an iPod shuffle. One is creating the internal waterproof seal; there can't be a single flaw that allows water access to the interior of the player. Underwater Audio achieves this through several proprietary steps that ensure our waterproofing material covers each wire, circuit and component.
A second challenge is getting waterproofing inside the iPod without damage. Apple press-fits and glues the shuffle together at the factory; you essentially have to break it to open it. This is exactly what most companies do. The result is increased failure rates. Underwater Audio has developed an innovative way to waterproof an iPod without taking it apart. Each iPod goes from Apple to Underwater Audio to you without ever cracking open the case.

It means a robust product. We have validated the integrity of our waterproofing process by subjecting our waterproofed iPods to a stress test over 100' deep, 4-10X the depth rating of competing products! Even under this intense pressure our seals show no sign of failure or water intrusion.
It means that is easy to care for. Most waterproofing processes require you to follow a complex list of instructions or void the warranty. These instructions stipulate many things, including never unplugging the headphones underwater! Our real world tests include immersing the iPod in water for weeks at time and removing and inserting the headphones over 800 times. Once again, our seals show no sign of failure or water intrusion.
